At the cross-roads

There were dreams we’d seen before
Ourselves or heard through lore
A life - with comfort galore
There were dreams to shoot for

Now when I open the door
And need to step to the fore
I see chore after chore
And hurdles I cannot ignore

There were dreams we’d seen before
Ourselves or heard through lore
Of finding someone to adore
Sharing a remarkable rapport

Now that I’m nested no more
And yet have ones to account for
Erring on occasion heretofore
I see that it’s no candy store

There were hopes we’d hoped afore
For a life that lies before
A life to brace oneself for
And many dreams to shoot for
